3 CARNIVAL COSTUMES THAT RECALL LAMPS BY IMURANESI
24 January 2017

Carnival is that time of the year when people tries to immerse in an ancient time, a party to retrace and revive the old traditions, identifying in the archetypes of the past.

We have tried to tell our personal story of the Carnival of Venice, searching for any similarities between the most famous masks and the original Murano glass vases created by IMuranesi.

1. IF IT WERE… HARLEQUIN? IT WOULD BE THE REDENTOR LANTERN24/gen/2017 12:36:38

The extravagant elegance of Harlequin, the mask from the Italian town of Bergamo, that combines Zanni from Commedia dell’Arte to the farcical characters of the French folk tradition, finds itself in the Redentor Lantern.

Redentor is a versatile table lamp, which can be transformed into a suspension thanks to the ring on its top. The Redentor Murano glass lantern is enriched with multicolored murrine and enclosed in a radial metal structure painted in satin copper. Thanks to the strong power of glass, the delicate fusion of colors that shine under the light emerges from every corner, creating a kaleidoscope of unusual shades.

2. IF IT WERE… BALANZONE? IT WOULD BE THE SAN MARCO LAMP24/gen/2017 12:38:06

The academic town of Bologna – home of the first University of the world – gives us doctor Balanzone, a serious character who always dresses in black, from the robe to the big hat, with jacket and mantle. Balanzone is the carnival costume that more than any other reminds us of the San Marco table lamp. A bedside lamp in Murano glass, with sober colors but of refined design, with a special ribbed glass that adds value to the product.

3. IF IT WERE… PULCINELLA? IT WOULD BE THE OIKOS LAMP24/gen/2017 12:37:40

Its name recalls the classical antiquity of Athens, while its design recalls the Neapolitan tradition embodied by the mask of Pulcinella. Oikos (house in greek) is a table lamp made in milky white Murano glass, decorated with lines of small raised black dots.
Two opposite colors that make the lamp more than just a furnishing accessory, unique in its own style when switched off and beautifully functional when switched on.
It reminds us of the carefree irreverence of Pulcinella, the anti-hero, the protagonist of incredible adventures, with a black hawk-nosed mask, and a white costume where you can glimpse a prominent belly, like the rounded shape of the Oikos lamp.

You shouldn’t put any limits on imagination because it’s imagination combined with tradition and craftsmanship that gives birth to amazing creations. IMuranesi invites you to discover its collection of lamps, vases, and glasses in Murano glass to start decorating your favourite space with the magic of Venice.
